The Science
The lunisolar calendar used in many cultures (like the Vietnamese 'Âm Lịch' or Chinese '农历') doesn't just look at the sun. It synchronizes lunar months with the solar year. Because a lunar month is about 29.5 days, 12 months only add up to 354 days. To keep the seasons in check, a 'leap month' is added roughly every three years. Your lunisolar age counts how many of these complex cycles you've lived through.
Fun Fact
In some traditions, you are considered 1 year old the moment you are born, and you turn a year older on the Lunar New Year (Tết), not on your solar birthday!
